How to Add your RSS Feed to Your Facebook Page

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

UPDATE 12-3-11 RSS Feature Removed

I am sorry to announce that Facebook has removed the RSS Feed feature. I recommend you contact Facebook to complain and request that it be restored.

Here is the Facebook Help page that confirms the removal of this feature.
http://www.facebook.com/help/?page=220304164665476

I am leaving the rest of this article in tact and will periodically check with Facebook to see if the feature is restored.

In the meantime you will need to manually post links to your blog posts or Hubpages articles on your Facebook wall or notes section. Alternately, Hubpages does have a Share feature that makes it easy to share your articles on your Facebook account however it is still a manual process. Many blogging platforms also have easy to add Facebook share features.

Adding an RSS feed to your Facebook Page

As a Hubber, I found that I wanted to share my hubs with my friends on Facebook. But how to do it easily? I'm a very busy person and did not want the tedious task of remembering to post a separate link to each HUB I write. Well, I searched high and low through the forums and help text on Facebook and HubPages. Two hours later and I found one tiny little link someone had posted in a forum that answered all my questions.

If you would like each HUB you write to automatically appear with a short description and link on your Wall in Facebook, click on "My Profile" at the top of HubPages. Under your photo you will see a little orange button that says "Subscribe to RSS Feed." Right click on it and select "Copy Shortcut" from the menu. Then go to:

http://www.facebook.com/editnotes.php

Place your cursor in the block on that Facebook page. Hold the Ctrl button and press the letter "V". This will paste the shortcut you just copied into the block. Click import.

That's it, your done. Now every time your create and publish a new HUB, your Facebook Wall will automatically be updated.

By the way, this process will work with your blog too. Just copy the URL of your blog feed instead of the URL for your HubPages feeds and insert it on the Facebook page above.

The only drawback is that Facebook will only allow you to import one feed, so if you write a blog and on HubPages, you will need to choose.

Finally, this is not permanent. If at some point in the future you no longer want to import that RSS feed to Facebook, go to your Notes page in Facebook. Toward the right you will see a box titled "Notes Settings". Click "Edit Import Settings" On the next page, you will see a button that says "Stop Importing". Click it and Facebook will stop importing that RSS feed. You can then leave it empty or insert a new feed to import.

Subdomain Migration and your Facebook Feed

August 2011, Hubpages and decided to move all hubs to a user based subdomain. If you currently have your RSS Feed imported by Facebook you should do your migration manually rather than waiting for the automated migration planned by Hubpages. If you take no action, when your subdomain is migrated Facebook will re-import your entire feed. This import will flood your Facebook wall with a separate post for each Hub you have. In addition, it will duplicate posts on your Notes page with links to the old and new URLS.

At minimum, I recommend you manually transfer your Hubs to the subdomain late at night. This will have your posts flood Facebook overnight and hopefully make a minimal impact on your wall and the news feeds of your friends. After the migration, you should probably consider cleaning up your notes page and removing the links to old URLS.

For a more involved solution, you can remove your RSS feed from Facebook by clicking on the link above. Then transfer your to your subdomain in Hubpages. Then come back here and re-add your feed to Facebook. I think this will avoid Facebook from re-importing the entire feed. It should just pick up the feed from that point forward. (If anyone tries this, please comment below with your results.) This solution will leave your old notes with links to the old URLS. Since all URLS will be automatically redirected, this is ok.

How To Defrag A Computer in Vista

Posted by Unknown Selasa, 17 Juli 2012 0 komentar

Degragging your computer on a regular basis will help it run at optimal speed. With Vista, it is very difficult to keep your computer running as fast as the day you first bought it because of the thousands of underlying processes running. It turns out that the best way to defrag your computer with this new operating system is through the command prompt. But vista decided to make differnet levels of access through command prompt. So to open command prompt as an administrator you do the following:

  1. Click the Start icon
  2. type the letters 'cmd' and the auto search should pull up 'cmd' under programs
  3. right click on the icon and choose ' run as administrator'
  4. The command screen should pull up

If you wold like to then find out what all the commands are in command prompt for defrag type in:

     'defrag/?'

The following list will open up:

Using this we can start the defrag process with the following structure:

  1. type 'defrag' so the computer knows exactly what you are going to be doing
  2.  type in the drive that you would like to defragment. for example 'c:' (so far in command line we have typed in 'defrag c:'
  3. If you would like an analysis done of the partition you are defraging use '-a'.
  4. If you would like a report of everything that was done after this process ends add a '-v' at the end.
  5. Be careful to make sure you use -f because windows will force the defragmentation to compress your files. This is a tool that you can use if you are using a computer with very little memory left and would rather try and make more than delete files.
  6. You then hit enter to defragment the drive in the way that you have specified
  7. Wait...... This isn't a fast process
Once the defragmentation is done, you can read the report and see how much of your space you freed, and how organized you compter now is. This will definatly help your operating speed.

How to Use Yahoo Answers to Get More Traffic to Your Website

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

What is Yahoo answers?

Yahoo! Answers is a community-driven knowledge market website launched by Yahoo! on December 13, 2005 that allows users to both submit questions to be answered and answer asked questions from other users.[Wikipedia].

This can be a great tool to drive traffic to your website - by answering questions that are related to your web based business. You should not have your link to your website on every answer [the moderators from yahoo will see it as spam] but the more you establish yourself as a knowledgeable authority the more people will know you and eventually know your website.

It works like this:

The more quality answers that you provide the more points you get. For each answer you get 2 points. Answering questions and getting them starred are the most common way to get points [there are other ways].

You will start off at 'level one' - which means that you can only answer twenty questions a day, so choose your questions wisely. The more points you get the more levels you go up and that means you get to answer more questions on a daily basis.

How to get started?

First you will need to create an account with yahoo. It's very simple:

Then go to Yahoo answers:

http://answers.yahoo.com/

Start researching topics/categories that are related to your business. If you want quality traffic then you should ONLY be answering questions related to your business or industry. If you are an expert on men's health and your website is about men's health chances are you'll find some Questions that are being posted by Yahoo Answers users that pertain to your niche, this is where you come in to show off your expertise.

Answering questions with high quality answers is already pre-selling to your potential customers, when people see you as the expert, when people see that you can provide a solution to their problem chances are they will become your loyal audience and who knows they just might end up becoming your loyal customers!

How to create selective color using Photoshop CS2

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Use Photoshop CS2 to create selective coloring in a photo or graphic. This entails desaturating (removing color from) certain elements of a picture and leaving (or enhancing) other colors in a photograph. I will show you how to do this using mask layers.

Selective coloring is a special technique used to enhance certain parts of an image. It's most often seen by completely desaturating the background of an image and leaving other elements of the picture completely saturated. While this may create a cool effect, it's a "cliché" of sorts that beginners often over-use. I will show you the basics so you can get started, but I encourage you to be creative with it because you can create a lot of cool subtle effects with adjusting the saturation channels in an image. Before we begin, here's a quick example of what selective coloring can do. This is the image I'll be using throughout the tutorial.

To begin you'll obviously need an image to work with and a copy of Photoshop CS2. So first things first, open up your image and set up your workspace to your liking. If you ever need to reset the pallets to their default locations go up to the menu you and click on Window -> Workspace -> Reset Pallet Locations.

Once you have your image opened up, look toward the bottom right of the screen and click on the "Create New Adjustment Layer", which looks like a little half moon. From there click on Hue/Saturation to open the Hue/Saturation dialogue. See the illustration below.

From here you have a couple of options depending on how simple or complex your image is. In this case I'm just removing the green color of the grass and leaves. In the illustration above click on the drop-down menu where it says "Master" and go down to "Green." Once there take the "Saturation" slider and drag it all the way to the left, or just type in -100. This should result in the following image:

Unfortunately, even though all the grass and leaves looked like they were all green, you'll often find that when experimenting, often times every-day objects that you normally perceive as being one color are made up of several different hues in varying saturations. In this case there's a good amount of yellow hue. Where the drop-down menu says "Green" go ahead and switch to the Yellow channel and drag the saturation slider down to -100. This should clear the rest of this picture. If you ever need to get back to your hue/saturation adjustment player after you close the dialogue, just double click the icon for the hue/saturation layer, as illustrated below.

So now the photo is done...

...Or is it? You'll often find that when you edit one color channel, you'll inadvertently desaturate something you didn't mean to because the colors are similar. Luckily we used a masked adjustment layer, so this is an easy fix! Notice next to your Hue/Saturation layer there is a white "box". This is your mask and it works similar to masking tape when you paint a room. You can paint with white and black and varying shades of gray. In our case the black will represent the masking tape. This can be easily remembered using the phrase "White reveals, black conceals."

Just for kicks lets re-saturate the leaves of the rose shown here. We're going to edit the mask layer, so click once on the white "box" next to the hue/saturation layer we've just made. It should have black brackets around it once it's selected. As illustrated below. Also, now is a good time to have your pallet ready with some easy shorcuts. To reset your default colors to black and white, just type the letter "D". Also when masking it's helpful to use the shortcut letter "X" to switch between black and white quickly.

Next select your paint brush tool. If there's a picture of a pencil here click and hold to switch to the brush tool.

Remember what I said earlier? Black conceals and white reveals. Go ahead and start painting your mask. You can adjust your brush size and hardness at the top. After you finish with your masking, your mask layer should look something like this. You really don't have to be exact with this.

And the resulting image. I didn't a wonderfully atrocious job with this, but you get the idea.

Now just one more tip before we're done. Often times you'll end up with a color that falls into more than one channel in the Hue/Saturation channel mixer. The best thing to do in this case is pick the color that's closest to what you're trying to change. In the following example, select "Blue" where it says "Master"

And from there you can actually click on your image to sample the exact hue you're looking for.In the above example this would have saved you from having to desaturate both the green and the yellow channels (and possibly mess up another part of the picture you might not have to) and done the whole thing in one step. Here I selected the cyan channel and used the eye dropper to sample the exact hue and desaturated that tone by itself (and also lightened it because the grey and orange didn't look good.) Note the Ford logo is still blue and I didn't have to mask it off.

One last note, you don't have to desaturate everything. You can also use this same technique to swap colors quickly and easily. Be creative and experiment!

How to Pimp Out Your Myspace Page With a Div Overlay

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar

Tired of having the same looking Myspace page as everyone else no matter how much you customize it? Do a complete overhaul with a div overlay. The div overlay will completely cover up the default Myspace page.

Skills needed: basic Photoshop skills, basic understanding of HTML, common sense
Programs needed: Photoshop (I'm using Photoshop CS2), a webhost (either your own or I recommend Photobucket.com - reasons will be covered later on)

A div overlay is actually very simple to do. The hardest part is actually creating the design you want. Your design is only limited by your imagination.

Other examples of my designs:

My Myspace page: http://www.myspace.com/backslide

My first version: http://www.calviniscool.com/myspace/calvin/v1/

A page I designed for my friend: http://www.calviniscool.com/myspace/jake/

For the purposes of simplicity, the design for this tutorial will not be complex. Also, this will be a div overlay without comments showing. Getting your comments to show on a div overlay involves some skills that are beyond the simple skills needed for this tutorial and therefore, will not be covered.

I start off with an image that I want to use for my div overlay. I edited a picture of Kate Beckinsale and made it a vector and gave it a slightly retro feel.

Add the links you want onto the base image. Again, for the purposes of simplicity, all my links are simple text. You can use images if you want. You can add or not add whichever links you want.

In Photoshop, select the Slice Tool. It looks like a little Exacto knife. The Slice Tool allows you to (*gasp*) slice up your image.

Using the Slice Tool, you will be slicing your links. You will accomplish this by starting from one corner of the part you want to slice, clicking the mouse button and while holding the mouse button down, dragging the cursor to the other corner.

Once you let go of the mouse button, a part of your image will be sliced. If you need to change the dimensions of the slice, click and drag the boxes on the slice.

Slice out the rest of your links and you will have a bunch of blue boxes showing on your image. These are your slices.

If you use the Slice Select Tool, you will see an option at the top to Show Auto Slices

If you click this, you will see all the slices that Photoshop automatically does for you. Your slices are the ones with blue numbers and the automatic slices are the boxes with grey numbers. Personally, I like designing with the Show Auto Slices option turned off. It makes it easier to see my own slices and makes it easier to edit if I have to.

If you decide to move a text link, don't worry, you won't have to reslice the whole image. All you have to do it move the link and then using the Slice Select Tool, move the slice to the new location.

Now that the designing part is done, it's time to get your image ready to be put up on Myspace.

From the File menu, select Save for Web.

This will bring up the Save for Web screen. Again, you can see that Photoshop has separated your slices from the automatic slices by making your slices a little darker than the automatic slices. You can move the image around by holding down the Space Bar and clicking on the image and dragging it around.

Time to add the links. Do this by double-clicking on one of your slices. This will bring up the Slice Options screen.

There are two ways to get your links. The first way is to view your profile. From there, simply copy your links. There are a couple of links that have a "&MyToken=(bunch of random letters and numbers)"added to the link. It is ok to delete everything from the "&MyToken=" part back. All the other links, keep them intact.

The second way is from a website that has been a secret for us div overlay designers for a while. And I will now reveal it to you.

http://www.bbzspace.com/

It is a website that has several generators as well as tutorials. Be warned, the website is popular and sometimes, it will load very slow. Be patient and it will load. On the right, on the menu, click on Div Overlay Model. Near the bottom of the screen, there is an Essential Links & Codes for Overlayssection. All you have to do is enter you Myspace link and it will generate the links for you. However, I found this to be extremely slow as it pulls the links from Myspace itself. So if Myspace is slow in addition to the slowness of bbz, the links will either take an extremely long time to be generated or might not be generated at all. It might be easier, but it would probably be quicker to get the links yourself.

Once you have all your links, add them to each link and then you are ready to save. Remember you are saving JPEGs and I like to use 90 as the Quality. Click Save and save it to a folder. Photoshop will generate the HTML and the all the appropriate images. You can now test out your new design by opening the HTML file Photoshop created and see your page.

You have to now upload your images. I have my own website so I just host my div overlay images there. You do not want to use a temporary uploader that will delete images on a regular basis. The reasons are pretty self-explanatory. Like I mentioned on top for the Programs needed, I recommend Photobucket. Go to the folder that you saved your design to and open up the Images folder. If you open up a couple of the images, you'll see that these are the slices of the whole image. You will have to upload all these images.

Once you have uploaded all the images, you will need to edit your HTML page. Open up the HTML page in Notepad. Using the Replace option, you will be replacing all the links. In Find What, use "images/" and replace it with your Photobucket folder or the folder on your website. Use Replace All. Be sure that your links are either fully enclosed within two quotation marks or don't have quotation marks at all.

Save this file as a HTML file with a different name than the original just in case you mess something up. I usually just add "-online" to the original filename and that way, I know it has online links to the images. If you did everything correctly, if you open up the HTML file with the online links, it'll look the same but with your images being loaded from a website instead of from your harddrive. This is also a good way to see if you uploaded all your images especially if you uploaded to Photobucket. Having to upload 30+ images, you might have missed one. If there is a blank spot in the middle of your image, you probably missed the file when uploading to Photobucket.

Once the HTML file has been edited and the images uploaded, you are ready to edit your Myspace page. Sign onto Myspace and edit your page in Safe Mode. I usually clean out everything. All my Interests & Personality, my Schools, Company ... I make it a clean slate.

Go back to http://www.bbzspace.com/ and go to the Div Overlay Model page. Select full screen. Use whatever Background Color and Div Background Color you want. However, it would make sense to make it a color that compliments your design. You find the background color of your design in Photoshop by using the Color Picker and copying the hexidecimal number.

Or you can use black or white. Black is 000000 (all zeros) and white is ffffff.

I usually use "None" as the Div Border Width and therefore, don't need a Border Width, Color or Style. I also usually leave the Text, Link, and (Comment) Header Colors blank. Check "Hide Top Links" if you want to hide the top links. I suggest you do so. It makes it look a lot better. Also check "Hide Comments". If you don't check it, your page won't look as good in my opinion. It also takes a bit more manipulation that isn't covered in this tutorial. Generate the code.

Once the code is generated, you're almost done. As the bbz directions state, copy the first block into yourInterests & Personality section. You can delete all the text in between the first tags including the tags. It won't affect anything. This first block is telling Myspace to hide certain things and display other things. Take a look at the code. In the ".div1" section, you'll see a width and height. Change the pixels to the width and height of your image. You can make it a pixel or two larger than your image to be safe. In my case, it was width:1025px and height:708px. You'll also have to change the margin-left to half the amount of your width. In my case, it would be margin-left:-512px. This is so your overlay will be centered. Also change the overflow: from auto to inherit. You shouldn't have to mess with anything else. Click "Preview" and then "Submit".

The second block is where you'll be putting in the HTML generated by Photoshop. Copy the second block into your Music section. You will be putting your own content right under the tag. So delete everything in between the [div class="div1"] and first [/div] tags.

Open up your HTML page with the online links in Notepad. At the top, start selecting from "[table id=" until the ending [/table] tag.

Copy the selection and put it in between the [div class="div1"] and first [/div] tags. Click "Preview". You should now see your overlay. Click "Submit".

You're done. Click on "View My Profile" and you should see your div overlay.

Note: This tutorial WILL NOT cover up your ads or remove them. If you remove or cover up your ads, Myspace will most likely ban you and delete you account.

Adding Comments to Your Div Overlay

Use bbzspace's div overlay generator. However, remember to uncheck "Hide Comments".

Copy and paste the codes as given to you. Be careful because the generator has now given you an extra line of code to be placed into your "Who I'd Like To Meet" section. Remember to put that line of code in.

Take a close look at the code you will be placing into your "Interests" section. The highlighted section deals with how your comments are displayed.

Quick lesson on "position: relative" top: -45px = moves up 45px top: 45px = moves down 45px left: -15px = moves left 15px left: 15px = moves right 15px

This highlighted part represents how far up from the bottom of the screen the bottom of the comments are. If it -100, then then bottom of your comments will be 100 pixels up from the bottom of the screen. If it is 0, then the bottom of your comments will be sitting at the very bottom of your screen. Edit to your preference. Something like 25 or 30 pixels is a good amount.

If you want to have your comments scrolling, use the default overflow:auto. However, if you want your comments to be all displayed without a scrollbar, use overflow:inherit

This number deals with how far down the top of your comments section will be. This depends on the height of your design. A good number is about 100 pixels greater than the height of your design. You'll have to do some experimenting.

Once you are satisfied with the results, simply Preview and Submit and you will have comments at the bottom of your div overlay.

Create and Sell a website for profit in one month

Posted by Unknown 0 komentar
We've all thought of it. Turning a little cash into something more with little effort. Well the semi-good news is that it can be done. But it will require a little work on your behalf.

In this article I will explain and help you profit nicely from a mere $10 by creating and selling a website!

Lets get started!

What you need

  • $10 in paypal
  • An hour or so a day
  • One month

Choosing a niche

First thing you need to choose is a niche. What is your site going to be about? Is it going to be a content driven site or will it offer a service? Try and thing of something unique. If you decide you want a video site, think of a specific video genre.

If you go with a content site there's plenty of free cms out there that you can use to set it up: Drupal, wordpress and the list goes on.

If you want to offer a service, there's plenty of free php scripts out there. Try and think of something that the market hasn't been saturated with already.

Choosing a domain

Once you have a niche it's time to choose a domain. Your domain is very important and a big factor on how profitable your site is. A nice short name will help visitors remember your site and keeping it related to your site niche is key. Finding a great name these days can be hard if you are not experienced. If you can't find a domain that you want, grab a thesaurus and look up similar words. Chances are you will find something better.

Tips for a good domain:

  • No hyphens or special characters
  • 4-8 characters is best but under 12 is good
  • Keep it to 1-2 words
  • Dot com is the best extension with dot net being second. If either of these are taken generally try and think of a new name

In the end though it's your choice and if you find a domain that you think is exceptional, register it.

You can purchase your domain at www.namecheap.com. Where you can also search for available domains.

Hosting

Now you will need somewhere to host this site. I recommend hostgator because you can get the first month for only $0.01. www.hostgator.com and choose shared plans. Select order now for the baby plan. Go through the set up and when you get to the page to pay with enter the coupon code "404page". Continue with payment and you will be charged $0.01.

You will be emailed with your site details. Once you have that you can either use cpanel to upload files to your site or you can use an ftp program such as filezilla.

Now that you have your dns server address you will need to go back to namecheap and transfer the domain to your new name servers.

You now have pretty much everything set up. Upload your cms or script that you chose and set up the site following the instructions provided with the script.

Monetizing your site!

Here's where it starts to get good. You will be needing to make some money from the site to make a profit right? How can you do that without selling ad places? Simple, you will use an ad publisher called Google Adsense. You will have to be accepted by Google but this is pretty easy. Once you have been accepted add some of the adsense code to your site in positions that look good.

Optimizing your ad code is the most crucial part of adsense. Make it blend to your page by having the border and the background the exact same color as your sites.

You can sign up for adsense at Adsense.com

Advertising your site and working on it

If you have opted for a service site then you shouldn't have to do much work on your site. If you have used a content site then you will need to keep it updated each day. Half an hour or so a day will suffice.

Advertising your site is now the biggest thing you need to do. This can be done in many various ways for free. I recommend never paying for advertising as this will eat into your profits and is not needed.

I won't go into advertising too much as it's something that you can usually think of by yourself. However here's some general tips

  • Sign up at related forums and add your site to your signature and get posting
  • Link swaps with other webmasters
  • Social sites like myspace and facebook
  • Digg your site and add a digg button to your site and hope you make it to the front page

Be creative, I'm sure something will come to mind.

Selling your site

Here's the part you have been looking forward too. Selling your site and making a profit. Of course this is optional, if you are enjoying the site and want to keep it then by all means keep it.

You can sell your site at a forum called Digital Point. You will need a minimum of 25 posts before you can list your site for sale so I recommend signing up here at the start of the month and making quality post during the month. You can ask for appraisals of your site there and also ask for advise with adsense.

Listing your site for sale is done in the Buy, Sell and Trade section. Here you will need to list as much info as possible. This will include adsense revenue, traffic stats, and anything else you can think of. There's a good sticky thread there that will help you list. Include the price you want for the site. This is called a BIN (buy it now) This is can be up too you what you want. Be reasonable though and just remember that it cost you $10 to set up and a bit of your time.

Well that's about all I can say.

Good luck.
